Virus Protection Tips

Here are some virus protection tips:

  • AUTOMATE your computer to keep up with the latest patches and hot fixes. If you have not automated your computer yet, automate now.
  • UPGRADE McAfee scan engine to the latest revision.
  • CONFIGURE McAFEE to auto update its antivirus signature files. Over 500 viruses are discovered each month.
  • CONFIGURE McAfee to run on startup.
  • NEVER open a file you have received off the Internet (e-mail, download or method) until you have scanned it for virus contamination.
  • ALWAYS scan a floppy disk that has been used in another computer BEFORE using it in your computer.
  • DELETE unsolicited emails, including chain and junk messages. Do not forward or reply to any of them. These types of e-mails are considered spam.
  • DO NOT OPEN any files attached to an email if the subject line is questionable or unexpected, even if the sender is someone you know. scan the files first.
  • DO NOT DOWNLOAD any files from strangers.
  • EMPTY the Recycle Bin
  • ALWAYS use caution, and when in doubt always err on the side of caution.
  • BACK UP your files on a regular basis.
  • If you are in doubt contact CNS helpdesk via e-support, or e-mail, or by calling ext. 2260.

Thank you for your kind efforts in keeping AUBnet a safer and better computing environment.
