AUBnet User Services - Part 2
This is the second part of the series of introductory pages that offer help and guidance for using some of the user services available on the AUB servers.
Find out how to manage your disk quota, how to check
the network status to find out when is a good time for browsing. As
for downloading programs and updates from the net, we now have a
service just for that, whereby users can request downloads of large
files. These downloads occur during the night when the traffic is low
and access speeds are high.

RAN out of space on your home directory? Read the instructions below for some guidelines to better manage your disk quota on AUB's mail server.
The first step to managing excessive disk space consumption is to delete unnecessary files. If you do not regularly delete your mail from the server, but leave it in your inbox, you will exceed your disk quota and stop receiving new mail.
But how to clean up?
- If you are a POP user (MS Outlook, Pegasus, or Eudora)
Unless you absolutely need to keep a copy of your mail on the server we strongly advise you to delete mail from server once successfully retrieved.
If you are not leaving mail on the server and you exceed your quota, just pop your mail to free up disk space on the server.
If, on the other hand you are keeping a copy of your mail on the server, you should delete some or all of it.
To do so please refer to section 1 on how to use PINE.
- If you are an Imail user
Click on the Quota Usage icon, then click on the folder whose contents you want to see, proceed to delete unwanted messages. Don't forget to click on Purge Deleted to empty the trash bin.
How to check your disk space usage?
There are two ways to do that :
- Students point your browser to https://cgi-students.aub.edu.lb/diskquota.html and follow the instructions.
Faculty/Staff point your browser to https://cgi-staff.aub.edu.lb/diskquota.html and follow the instructions.

DO you want to download large files without affecting your internet quota?
Now with the new Overnight FTP service, you can do just that. Just fill the request form and press submit. The rules to follow are simple, users must authenticate themselves using their AUBnet Login ID and Password, must have a valid URL for the file to be downloaded and, to note that, the larger the file is, the more useful it should be to the AUB community.

WHEN is the best time to browse the net? The answer is simple, when others aren't using it. How would you know? Click on our Server Statistics and examine the graphs to see real time internet traffic and the numbers of simultaneous users' accessing the net.
